Hello Family,
My Aunty Mam, Pi Pom and Pi Toom picked us up in the bus to take us on a tour of the different temples in Thailand. We went to three different temples to look at the different styles and dedications. I loved the first temple because it had beautiful gardens and many different statues and Buddahs. Mummy and Daddy took lots of photos and you will see some here soon! The first temple we went to was burned down many years ago in the war with Burma and they had cut off many of the Buddahs heads. The temple has been restored and all the Buddahs have been fixed but you can still see the fire damage in certain parts. Mummy and Daddy climbed lots of stairs to place some gold leaf in a small room with 6 sitting Buddahs to recieve a blessing. The leaning Buddah is the main attraction here in a well kept garden, Mummy said the Buddah did so many good things that sometimes Buddah needed a rest, and deserved a bit of a lie down. The leaning Buddah was very long, about 10 of Daddy. We also fed the fish and turtles in a big lake but Mummy got very cross when I tried to feed the fish with my plastic cup.
The second temple had a big (very big) golden Buddah and was in a sitting position. I loved this temple and kept saying WOW. There were lots of local people who had come to pray, they buy long lengths of gold material that gets drapped around the Buddah and people get a blessing, Dady said they were dressing the Buddah. It was very interesting to watch and Mummy said that I looked fascinated. Daddy bought me my own little gold Buddah and Nanna said she would get it blessed when we go home.
We also took a day trip out to the River Kwai, Mummy said this was very sad as many Australians died during the war. The Japanese used Prisioners of War and forced locals to build a railway from Burma through to Thailand during the second world war. Many people died because of the environment, weather and poor health and living conditions that people lived in. First we went to the cementry where many Australians, English, Dutch and Scottish people are buried. While we were there a family (son and daughter) came in to see their Dads grave, they left photos and a letter they had written for their Dad who had died when they were very little. Mummy and Pa Mam were very sad, it was very moving. Mummy and Daddy walked through the War Museum which Mummy said was a bit graphic but that every person should have to see once in their lifetime. After the museum we went to the River Kwai and went on a train ride across the river. Daddy said I was very funny as I waved to all of the people like a little prince, I waved and waved. We saw a dancing elephant and lots of markets, more things for Shae and Mummy to buy! Pi Toom is Daddys Aunty and my Aunty too. She helped Mummy do the bartering, she is a very smart shopper and has saved Mummy lots of money. We were very glad that she was with us. After the train ride we had lunch on a floating river boat, lots of seafood and green fanta, which Mummy and Daddy both love. We are having a great time, can't wait to show you some of the photos!
